Ian
Co-Founder
My name is Ian MacDonald, and I began my electrical career in 1993 while still in high school. After completing vocational school plus a five-year training apprenticeship, I earned my journeyman status and have worked with various commercial and residential electrical companies across the US. In 2019, my family and I moved to Washington state from Rochester, NY and have worked primarily as the electrical expert in sales and installations for HVAC contractors. My true passion lies in serving the people I meet, solving their electrical problems, and offering solutions to enhance the safety and efficiency of their homes.
Another shared passion is education, with the goal of providing better pathways into the electrical trade for all, and especially for those who remain underrepresented in the field. To make a bigger impact, my colleague Matthew and I stepped out to start our own company, Empowering Electrical Solutions!
Matthew
Co-Founder
Born and raised in the small-town charm of Silverton, Oregon, Matthew grew up with muddy boots and a curious mind. From working on his uncle’s farm to getting lost in books, art, science, sports, and (admittedly) a few too many console games, he’s always been a hands-on kind of guy. He loved Oregon’s rainy falls, long dog walks through the filbert orchards, and the magic of family holiday gatherings, especially the part where everyone’s laughing over gifts no one really needed but everyone loved.
He graduated from Oregon State University in 2009, just in time for the economy to implode, leaving him juggling odd jobs and life lessons. A 25-cent raise at a law firm was the final push. He packed up, moved to Washington, and took his uncle’s advice to join the trades. Turns out, it was the best decision he never planned.
Today, with years of experience, a brilliant partner, and an even brighter daughter, Matthew has teamed up with Ian MacDonald to co-found Empowering Electrical Solutions. A company driven by values, not shareholders. Together, they’re working to Power Today and Empower Tomorrow by championing education and bringing back that small business spirit that puts people first.

More than just a furry face, Winston is the self-appointed Chief Morale Officer and beloved office mascot, bringing a unique brand of pug-tastic charm to the daily operations in Arlington, Washington.

He embodies the friendly and committed spirit of the company, reminding everyone that even amidst the most demanding electrical work, there's always room for a bit of joy and a whole lot of unconditional love.
